Application to Participate in the VMC Community

The VMC community, a community of practice dedicated to research and teaching to further the advancement of mathematics education and related fields, is open for participation.

The primary purpose of the community is to use the VMC video collection and its analysis tool, the RUAnalytic, to advance your research and practice.  As a member of the community, you will receive private work space to create analytics that you can keep for private use, share with others and incorporate into your teaching, research and publishing.  Over time, we hope to develop a fully functioning virtual community where you can meet, innovate and develop your research and practice with others in many additional ways.  We will look to the members to guide us in that development.

Please get started with us by completing the form below.  When the completed form is received, we will be in touch with you as soon as we review the information.

If you are a university instructor who plans to use the collection and analytic for a course, and you wish to block register the students in your course, please complete the VMC Community Course application form.

Welcome!

Participation in the VMC Community requires that you have reviewed the VMC Community Code of Conduct, that you fully understand it, and you agree to abide by all of its requirements, including those incorporated by reference from the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct Including 2010 Amendments of the American Psychological Association

* Use of the tool: if you are an in-service or pre-service teacher, you may use this tool to create analytics that help you better understand problem based learning in a classroom environment. If you are a university educator, you may use this tool to create analytics for research into student thought processes and how such thought processes might be elicited by teachers through formative assessment. You might also use the analytic to illustrate teaching methods that promote student reasoning for your students in a course.  These are only a few examples. There are many possibilities for how our tool can be used, and we are eager to hear more about your intentions! If you plan to use the tool for a grant funded project, please provide the funding source, funder and grant identifier in your description  This enables us to demonstrate ongoing impact for the tool.  If you will be referencing an analytic in a dissertation, article or book, it must have a DOI associated, which requires publication in the VMC, please contact us to request peer review and publication when your analytic is completed.

We will contact any accounts that are dormant one year after last login with a six month warning and steps to take to maintain an active account.  If we do not hear from the participant, at the end of the six month period, the account will be deleted, which includes deletion of any analytics stored in the account.

Currently, accounts do not include public profiles that can be made available to others.  When this feature is developed, you may be contacted for a photo and for permission to make all or part of your profile available to others.
