DescriptionIn the fifth of five clips from this classroom session, a visiting researcher asked David, Erik, and Meredith about the large model on the floor, which reflected their attempt to reconstruct the model that they had built in the previous day's session. The researcher observed that there were thirteen purple rods, which Erik then counted and confirmed, saying that they had made a mistake when they re-built the model. Meredith questions why they need twelfths when the problem asked about two thirds and three fourths. David and Erik begin to explain that the point of the big model was to show how doubling the length of a smaller model changed the number name given to the red rod but did not change the answer to the problem. But this notion could not be elaborated on because time had run out and they had to put away the rods.
