DescriptionIn this one-on-one interview with Angela when she was in high school, she discusses how she solved the Towers problem three days earlier when she worked with Magda. The researcher prompts her to start from solving the task with one-color, one-tall towers, building progressively to the final task she solved with Magda. Angela attempts to explain each step, how the number grows, and develops a mathematical formula to provide evidence for her findings. She takes time to build the towers with the Unifix cubes provided to her in order to demonstrate. Towards the end of the session, she considers more advanced cases where the number of possible colors to choose from is larger, instead of simply two.
