DescriptionIn the fifth of 8 clips with second grade students, researcher Amy Martino interviews Stephanie about her solution to the spring egg problem that she had done in class with Michael. (See Clip 4 of this series.)
Stephanie refers to the carton of plastic eggs, which is the one that they had used to solve the problem, and her written solution. The carton included four yellow eggs, four purple eggs, three pink eggs and one blue egg. Stephanie recalls how she had figured out the number of jellybeans for each color and then explained how she arrived at her total of 45 jelly beans.
The Problem Statement:
Each group has a carton of spring eggs.
There are 4 colors of spring eggs in each carton.
Each yellow egg has 5 jellybeans inside.
Each pink egg has 2 jelly beans inside.
Each purple egg has 4 jellybeans inside.
Each blue egg has 3 jellybeans inside.
How many jellybeans are in your group's carton?
